In our increasingly digital and connected lives, virtual products like movies, shows, and video games are becoming a bigger part of consumers’ lives and children’s play. Companies with popular physical products, like toys, are leveraging these to create valuable intellectual property assets as well. How does the digital life of these products impact how we physically interact with the products and what are the implications on safety? In this diverse, interactive panel, which will include representatives from industry, regulators, and IP/advertising experts, we will explore some of the risks and opportunities of these developments. We will address questions such as:
• How can companies work to keep the digital life of their products consistent with safe use of their physical counterparts?
• What steps can companies take to ensure continued safe use of physical products that are also featured in digital media?
• What steps can companies take to control how their IP is used by licensees in relation to safety?
• How might the digital life of a physical toy affect our view of reasonably foreseeable misuse?
